How to Play
Deck – A deck consists of 25 cards and is placed face down. (For your first deck, it is recommended to have around 12 power cards, 10 beast cards, and 3 equipment cards) A deck cannot contain two of the same cards except for Power Cells.
Starting the Game – The game begins with each player shuffling their deck and drawing 5 cards into their hand. If a player is unsatisfied with their beginning hand, they may reshuffle their deck and draw 5 cards again. This can only be done once. Both players roll a dice or flip a coin to decide who goes first. On each player’s first turn, they do not draw any cards beyond their initial 5 cards.
Winning – A player wins the battle when their opponent’s deck, hand, and field have no remaining beasts.
Turns – Players can only play cards when it is their turn. Their turn ends when they finish with their attacks or say “Pass.”
Drawing and Discarding – From their 2nd turn onward, players draw 2 cards at the beginning of each turn. At the end of their turn, if a player has more than 5 cards in their hand, they must discard down to 5.
Power - Power cards can be placed on the field without cost. They are used to pay the power cost of beasts, equipment, and attacks. Power is “tapped” by flipping a power card over. All power cards “untap” at the beginning of the next turn, at which point they can be used again. There is no limit to how many power cards can be placed on the field in one turn.
Beasts – To place a beast on the field, their power cost (indicated next to the beast’s name) must be paid. There is no limit to how many beasts can be placed on the field in one turn.
Equipment – To equip a beast with an equipment, the equipment’s power cost (indicated next to the equipment's name) must be paid. Equipment cannot be placed on the field without equipping it to a beast. Equipment remains equipped to the beast until the beast leaves the field.
Attacking – Each time a beast attacks, the attack power cost must be paid. Each beast has two attack options with different power costs, but a beast can only attack once each turn. The player must indicate which of the opponent’s beasts will be targeted. Multiple beasts can attack the same target beast. The total damage of the attack(s) is subtracted from the target beast’s health.
Health – A beast’s health is indicated in the top right corner of their card. Beasts lose health when they are attacked. They do not regenerate health. Once a beast’s health reaches 0, it leaves the field and is placed in the discard pile. (A beast’s health can be tracked using dice, game counters, or even household items such as beans)
Elemental Strengths – Each of the 6 elemental types has a “Strength” advantage over another elemental type. When a beast attacks a beast of its elemental strength type, its attack deals an extra 2 damage. When it attacks a beast of its elemental weakness, however, it does not deal reduced damage. It deals its normal amount of damage.
